More
information about Summer Gardening with details
of summer gardening activities and other garden
tools for your summer season
Summer
is here at last and your efforts are now being
rewarded. So, take it easy and just enjoy the
scenery. You don't want to be digging or doing
manual hard labour summer gardening when it's
hot and humid, get out the table, find those chairs
in the shed, poor yourself a beer or mix yourself
a pink gin and just relax.
Whilst
you are relaxing, you may wish to plan ahead for
the next year (yes it is not too soon). Before
you know it, those bedding plants for next spring
will start to appear and you not even decided
where it will all happen.
Also,
summer gardening time is an opportunity to check
out your garden tools and get them in shape for
the work to come. Or perhaps it's time to consider
treating yourself to something to make those tasks
a little easier.
Summer
gardening - some garden tools information
Loppers
- there is an array of different loppers on
the market today for summer gardening, but each
is designed for a specific task. A tough woody
thick stem will require a heavy duty geared anvil
lopper. These are really too heavy to handle those
smaller thin fleshy stems which should be tackled
with a lightweight by-pass scissor action cutting
blade. By-pass loppers give a clean cut and avoid
the crushing of stems. However, sometimes you
just simply need to get some leaverage into your
summer gardening to cut through those thicker
branches. A geared action mechanism in a heavy
duty lopper is ideal. The better the quality of
steel, the longer the sharp edge will keep, so
the more expensive the lopper, usually the better
quality tempered and hardened higher carbon quality
steel you get. The Sorby & Hutton loppers
are more expensive, but you get what you pay for
.. they are excellent.

Summer
Gardening - Pruners & Pruning
Pruners
- For small scale cutting and trimming, there
is a range of top quality anvil pruners and traditional
by-pass secateurs. For your summer gardening pruners,
choose on size and action. If you are needing
accurate cuts on delicate stems, then choose a
by-pass scissor action pruner. Alternatively for
heavier duty work on tougher stems, choose an
anvil action pruner. If you have a weakness in
your hand, then choose a ratchet pruner or geared
action pruner and finally if you are left handed,
then select a left handed pruner which has been
designed for your needs.
Lawn
Care - keep cutting and collecting the grass
(leaving grass cuttings will encorage moss). You
can give your lawn a spiking to aerate then apply
lawn feed. Summer gardening is about enjoying
your lawn, so getout the garden games and have
fun.
Hedge
Trimming
It's
that time of year when things are growing full
on, so you will be busy with hedge trimming for
some time yet. As well as pruning and secateur(ing)
your shrubs and trees, summer gardening is your
chance to cut and trim those hedges to show off
their true potential.
Happy
Summer Gardening for all seasons in a garden for
all seasons.
