SLASHERS & BRUSHING HOOKS
A brushing hook, also referred
to as a brush axe, is a gardening instrument resembling
an axe with a long, curved blade used for clearing
out heavy undergrowth from trails. A brushing
hook is often used by survey crews or fire fighters
and can be either double-sided or single-sided.
It is advisable that you do
not wear gloves or work in wet conditions
when using a brushing hook as good grip is essential
for safe use - most gloves are liable to cause
slipping. A brushing hook is a type of slasher
and include the brushing hook itself used for
cutting light vegetation and grass as well as
the heavy duty slasher used for cutting woody
vegetation. The Dunse Slasher is a short-handled
slasher, this is used for light vegetation and
hedgelaying preparation. Irish Slasher - a heavy
duty slasher, best for hedgelaying, cutting thicket,
and general purpose use. The Irish Brushing Hook
is a heavy duty general purpose brushing hook
for non-woody vegetation. The General Pattern
Brushing Hook is similar to the Irish Brushing
Hook but not as robust.
