The Asparagus knife -
information
An English Fenland tool made from
"Sickle" steel incorporating a sharpened
edge supported by a saw-tooth on the reverse stoke.
This lovely wooden handled Asparagus Knife is
made of beech.

used for asparagus planting growing. It is for
planting asparagus, planting vegetable harvesting
and is also useful when finding wild asparagus.

Growing & Harvesting
Do not cut any asparagus with
an asparagus knife the first summer and only a
few of the new spears the next. This allows the
plant to establish and ensures steady cropping
form the third year onwards. Snap the spears at
ground level or cut below ground with the asparagus
knife. Always leave a few spears to mature and
make the energy to supply the next season's crop.
Plants that are 'earthed up' will make white spears,
it's a matter of personal taste.
