Details of the most common garden
pests
and how to get rid of the pests in your garden
How
to deal with pests in your garden
A
garden pest is only a pest in your eyes. It can
be animal, vegetable or mineral. One man's garden
pest is another man's joy. A weed is a plant in
the wrong place according to your garden rules.
A juicy caterpillar is a butterfly's creation,
but if you spray the life out of the poor little
creature, then you are destroying nature. If you
are in the business of food production for the
benefit of the human race, then we have to make
a stand against garden pests that attempt to destroy
that harvest. But a garden is only an aesthetic
space, not a production factory, so we should
be more willing to accept compromise in our garden
paradise.
Please
don't kill garden pests
There
are two main schools of thought on this:
1...
kill the garden pests regardless of any other
consideration
2...
consider the implications of putting chemicals
into the ground that are harmful to other animals
and pollute the environment.
It
is true to say that most people don't give a monkeys
uncle about the environment when they've got ants
running around their house, or have slugs munching
their lettuces. Some have a terrible phobia about
spiders and some hate the vine weevil for it's
destruction of flower heads and so on ..... but
really none of these things are so important in
life and some thought for the environment should
really be in your head before you reach for that
plastic bottle full of pesticide to kill those
garden pests.
Other
garden pests
To
be honest, really anything that gets into your
garden and annoys you could be classed as a garden
pest. The next door neighbour's cat, digging a
poo hole in your neat borders is a big garden
pest concern for some, whilst a yappy dog that
yap yaps at every moving leaf can be a big garden
noise pest for others. Lets face it, if we are
so intolerant, why do we live so close to others
- go and live in an isolated spot where there
are no facilities and see how the natural world
invades your garden. Garden pests are a human
invention, so please try and consider nature first
before you zap-blast those garden pests.
