PRESS BRIEFING
Country and garden lovers from far and wide are
expected to converge on Hemingford Abbots in Cambridgeshire
on 26th and 27th June 2010 to enjoy two days of
garden delights and rural attractions in one of
the most beautiful villages in England.
The Flower Festival has built up a reputation
among keen gardeners and those who love to soak
up the atmosphere in this Cambridgeshire haven
of historic and modern properties.
The riverside village opens its garden gates
every two years to reveal a multitude of styles
and designs from modern landscapes to traditional
cottage gardens. We extend a warm invitation to
our thousands of regular supporters as well as
first time visitors.
Day programmes are available at £6 each,
weekend programmes are £10. Supervised children
under 16 are free as is car parking. Visitors
will have access to more than 20 private gardens
and a host of attractions ranging from vintage
cars, cycles and tractors to rural pursuits such
as Morris Dancing and craft demonstrations. Mouth
watering home-made cakes are served with afternoon
tea, available at a number of idyllic garden settings.
The sound of brass bands and church bells adds
a fitting backdrop to this snapshot of rural England
at its best.
Monies raised at the Flower Festival are put
towards the maintenance and repair of St Margaret's
Church enabling vital repairs to take place. The
Church is a focal point during the weekend and
is decorated with imaginative floral arrangements
related to the chosen theme which this time will
be ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’. The
village Flower Guild, who also decorate the church
throughout the year, creates this splendid display.
In addition to special services in the church
there will also be a rich and varied programme
of music throughout the weekend to complement
the floral displays and enhance the beauty of
this 12th century listed building.
Nearly everyone in this village of 600 inhabitants
takes part in the festival in some way - from
the baking of cakes to the trimming of lawns.
The Hemingford Abbots Flower Festival 2010 is
a rare opportunity to savour the atmosphere of
a quintessentially English village.
